I bought a juicer two years ago. I used it four times. The first time was fun, the second was fine, and by the fourth I was standing at the sink at 7 a.m., scraping beetroot pulp out of the filter and wondering why I’d bothered. It’s in a cupboard now, somewhere behind the rice cooker.
I still want more vegetables in my day, though. Most days I don’t get enough. Lunch has a little, dinner has some, and breakfast has none.
The shortcut I use now
A friend told me to try instant vegetable juice, and I laughed at first. Then I tried it.
You can get it in the form of powder and in a small sachet. You just need to pour it into a glass then add cold water and finally shake it. So, it is ready in less than a minute. I keep one sachet in my office bag for the days I skip breakfast.
But, there is one thing which I learned and I will do it for sure. It is to read the ingredients. If you see sugar as the first ingredient, be aware that you are drinking the sweet water. So, you must search for the ingredients like spinach, carrot, beetroot, etc.
Where I found mine
I didn’t find it in a shop. I ordered vegetable juice online. Here, I could compare ten and read what people said. A tip on reviews: ignore “nice product.” Look for the ones that talk about taste and how easily it mixes. Those people have actually drunk it.
Getting used to the taste
Honestly, some of these vegetable drinks taste odd on day one. Beetroot is earthy. Spinach blends can taste like a lawn. You can literally start with something mild, like tomato or carrot. Thereafter to get better taste add drops of lemon and a pinch of black salt. After a couple of weeks, you may even start to like the stronger ones.
If
you are new, try it for a week. You can pick one flavour and have a single
glass in a day. You can have it with breakfast or after a walk. So, by the end of the week, you can feel this as
a normal morning routine. That’s all it takes.
